What a day! Who would of guessed that the first day of digging into the old factory building now known, as the Brickworks would have been so thrilling. Thrilling in the sense that a community of farmers, townspeople, tradesmen, friends of friends would join hands in the first of many work parties with such vigor. In the back of my mind I can hear the tap tap tap of hammers, squeaking of rusty nails drawn from island milled lumber, the cackle of a laugh, the pulling up of yellowed linoleum, the sound of heavy boots going up and down the stairs. It was amazing. To see such great organization and leadership, realized by diligent workers, is a testament that islanders are can do people. Assign a task and the willingness followed, from pulling nails to removing partition walls with a pry bar and saw-zall. Snacks were donated, trucks went to the recycle, photos were taken, and we all felt so happy to be contributing to such a community project.

What a great night and thanks to all that joined together in the "Rising of Brickworks"; …the music, the artisans, the food, the setting, the friends, the cheer, the young and old, and the community spirit and generosity. I loved the Market theme with Mexican food, reminded me of the town plazas you see in almost every village in Mexico and many other counties. What a concept!

Food was fabulous! Wocka & Stephanie Keys-Hubber and their team (&Tim Barrette behind the scenes) created a delicious Mexican dinner from the donated food from our local farmers. What a great catering gig they have, with their woodfired cooking and handmade tortillas.Salsas and condiments by Pablito's. Dessert was provided by Gretchen at Duck Soup, a moist Mexican chocolate cinnamon cake and Lizeth at Bakery San Juan, a flan to die for.
Gracias a todos
